Yesterday, I participated in Day in the Life....cue classic Beatles song.
When Ali suggested it, I was excited to get a little creative with my camera for an entire day. I had every intention of using my DSLR; but, with a two month old, I found I relied heavily on my iPhone and Instagram. Below are the highlights of my day.
7:06 AM : Grumblings from the bassinet - Rowan-girl is up. Groggy, I realize that Aaron is dressed and heading out the door to work. I am thankful that I get to stay in my pj's for another hour....or four.
10:21 AM: I can't believe that we are out the door. Think to myself that I must look like some sort of modern day bag lady with diaper bag, gym bag and car seat in tow. Excited that I am organized. Still amazed by the fact that I am a "parent" and that I have a "child". Giggle to myself, because I still feel like a teenager who is just hoping to borrow the car from my parents!
10:46 AM: Immediately feel my age. While in the change room, I overhear two twentysomething girls talk about their "wild and crazy" weekend in Vegas. For a brief moment, I wish to be that age again. Quickly realize that I was never a "party girl" and the idea of dancing on a bar makes me slightly nauseous and afarid of heights.
12:35 PM After lifting weights and running on the treadmill for an hour, Rowan-girl and I are off to the movies to see "The Descendants". Can't believe that I am off on maternity leave and that Rowan and I get to hang out and go to the show. Am excited and slightly offended when the cashier gives me the senior's discount. Don't feel bad when my "small" popcorn comes to $7.47.
4:15 PM Movie was good, not great. Drive home to walk Charlie. He shoots out the door like a rocket. There is no hiding his emotions: he is happy that we are home. We enjoy the sunshine in the park. Rowan sleeps as Charlie chases the blue squeaky ball. I catch my breathe from our busy day and drink a chai tea latte.
6:23 PM Wake Rowan up from her nap. Afarid that if she continues to sleep that it could be a long, late night. The witching hour begins.
8:23 PM Blink and just like that dinner is done. We are settling into our night time routine. We change Rowan's diaper and warm a bottle. Rowan is swaddled and I rock her til she falls asleep.
9:01 PM Up load pictures to iPhoto and start blogging. Looking forward to calling it a night myself.
Observations: Wow! I can't remember being so organized as a childless person. I am pleased that I was able to manage a busy day like today. I am again thankful for my mat leave and baby friendly environments, like the gym with newborn daycare and the movie theatre with "movies for mommies" screenings. Documenting a day in my life right now, makes me thankful for the good day we had. It also makes me realize I need to take more pictures with Aaron. Planning: I am excited to include this in my Project Life Album. If I only include the photos and words, I will be happy. Given my time constraints, I'm thinking something simple, like a 4x3 grid.
Did you document a Day In Your Life? If so, did you use a smart phone or digital camera?
Happy Thursday!

Way to go, Mom!
